Two shall become One
We often hear that the wedding day is all about the bride, that it’s her day, and the groom just has to show up. Right?
I’ve even heard men say that their wedding or upcoming wedding was or is “all about her”.
It’s so sad that people believe that or are experiencing that.
Our culture has turned marriage into a wedding day. We obsess over the temporary details like the dresses, the flowers, etc. Those things are typically associated with and chosen by the bride, making the wedding seem all about her.
When we focus on what is permanent about the day and what actually happens during the sacrament of marriage, we realize that THAT is the most important part. The truth and validity of the sacrament do not rely on the style of the bride’s dress or the type of flowers in her bouquet.
The permanent part takes two people, the bride AND the groom. Mark 10:8 says, “The TWO shall become one”..... God joins together TWO people!
It takes two people using the gift of free will to vow their lives to each other. It’s not, nor should it be all about the bride.
It’s about the two of them honoring the Lord together..... the One the day is really about.
